Merriam Organic Market - Slow down for M.O.M. on Tuesdays

If you are already a locavore and you understand the greening process being applied to Kansas City's Local Food, you are ahead of the game. In Merriam (Kansas), we're providing local shoppers and Kansas City commuters a new Farmers Market alternative.

Maybe you just haven't heard of Slow Food, The 100-Mile Diet, or How to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint, One Bite at a Time... come to learn (and SHOP) at Merriam Organic (Farmers) Market (M.O.M.) at 5740 Merriam Drive (the Merriam Farmer's Marketplace) - just a few blocks NW of I-35 & Johnson Drive in Merriam, KS. It isn't a supermarket and it isn't a regular farmer's market, so SLOW DOWN and take an exit from your rush hour.  See what our SLOW FOOD is all about and discover more of what we have to offer this community.

Personal solutions to the Omnivore's Dilemma are presented by M.O.M.'s food vendors:

  • Local organically-grown, natural & sustainably-grown fresh greens & vegetables, plantings, seeds, honey, fruits, herbs, nuts & other garden produce IN-SEASON.  Heirloom varieties from select vendors will also be provided.

  • Bread of Life Bakery will provide whole-grain and GLUTEN-FREE baked goods.

  • Local free-range meats (we'll have beef, pork, chicken, emu, lamb, mutton, buffalo and other meat for sale IN-SEASON, when available) on a weekly basis.  Our local meat producers will be on hand with select cuts, ground meats and assorted bundles shrink-wrapped and hard-frozen to take home and prepare yourself.  See our meat producer's web sites and pre-order (at least a day or two in advance) to ensure that you find what you need at market.

  • Bar-B-Que products are planned for our market - our local meats, prepared by local barbeque chefs, will become slow-smoked and slow-grilled delicacies to be served up & packaged for sale. When our chef's are on-hand, you'll be able to come in for take-home meals, a picnic in the park (nearby), or to eat on-the-spot. (NOTE: Grass-fed beef is extremely lean and requires longer cooking time over a slow flame.  Patience on the grill is of paramount importance for all of our meats, and our Educational BBQ will provide some pointers along with ready-to-eat picnic and take-home fare).
        We are seeking an experienced (licensed in Kansas) local Bar-B-Que Chef/caterer to SLOW-COOK our local meats and provide delicious provender to our customers on a regular basis (M.O.M.'s Concession Application is available upon request).  The ideal applicant will commit to weekly food prep, long-term cross-promotions and product sales mechanisms (including M.O.M.'s CSA), seasonal outdoor food service on-site at M.O.M.'s pavilion (including cooking demos), educating customers, and working closely with our market's meat suppliers.

  • Local Organic & Free-Range Eggs (when available).

  • Local arts & crafts will be featured, and we'll have entertainment, music & educational materials of all kinds.

  • Local musicians will (on occasion) provide some acoustic flavor to your evening.

  • Green businesses and organizations are welcome to apply as vendors - others may supply information and educational literature.

  • Pre-Ordering - online/FAX/phone services - will be available, starting in June. Check with select vendors to confirm availability & pricing - place your order - pick-up from M.O.M.!

  • M.O.M.'s 50-week CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares will be available starting in late September - a 100-Mile Kitchen will be part of this evolution. Corporate (multi-eater) drop-offs can be arranged.
